As an active-duty or veteran member of our armed forces, you’ve played an important role in shaping the future of our country. At Schiller International University, we want to return the favor by helping you shape your own future. Whether you are preparing for civilian life or looking for training to support your military occupation, we can help you earn the qualification you need.
The SIU system has been designated a Service members Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium university. As a member of SOC, SIU has committed itself to fully support and comply with SOC principles and criteria, ensuring that service members and their families share in the postsecondary educational opportunities available to other citizens. Those eligible are provided with appropriately accredited educational programs, courses, and services. Flexibility of programs and procedures particularly in admissions, counseling, credit transfer, course articulation, recognition of other applicable learning experiences, including those gained in the military, scheduling, course format and residency requirements are provided to enhance access of service members and their families to undergraduate education programs. All SOC rules and regulations apply, including:
- Credit for military training and experience – SIU recognizes and uses ACE Guide in evaluating military training experiences. Contact the Joint Services Transcripts (JST) to have your military transcripts sent to NMSU Office of Admissions for evaluation.
- Reduced academic residency requirements – 25% maximum for degree programs
- Credit for nationally-recognized testing programs such as CLEP (General and Subject exams), DSST (DANTES Standardized Subject Tests)
Admissions for Military Students
We know that the lives of military personnel and their families are often unpredictable. Our monthly rolling admissions policy makes it possible for you to start your program when you’re ready.
Once you apply, our admissions staff can help you prepare for a transfer credit evaluation. We use the ACE Guide to evaluate your military training experiences when you provide a transcript from Joint Services Transcripts (JST). We will also consider credit by examination from tests such as the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) and DANTES (DSST).
Financial Aid for Military Students
We participate in the Montgomery GI Bill, Post 9/11 GI Bill, and many other financial aid and benefits programs for veterans. Please click here for a more detailed review of financial aid and benefits for military students at Schiller.
