Tuesday, 25 August, 3 p.m., Dr. Cesar Serrano will hold his talk, and question and answer session about
Human Rights and working for the United Nations in South Sudan under changing mandates.
He will also discuss such issues as what it means to work for the UN, how to secure employment with the organization, as well as opportunities for the UN Volunteer Program.
Wednesday, 26 August, 3 p.m., Ambassador Dr. Zlatko Dimitroff will hold his talk, and question and answer session, about the
United Nations Peacekeeping Operations.
He will also discuss employment opportunities for those interested in securing employment with the UN in the Central African Republic.
These presentations and discussions should be of general interest to all students at Schiller in that opportunities for Business and IR majors will be discussed. The UN, like all intergovernmental organizations, urgently needs experts in human resource management, logistics, procurement, finance and accounting, as well as many other areas relevant to both IR and Business.
Dr. Serrano is a Human Rights Officer in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, based in Western Equatoria State. He has been engaged in monitoring human rights issues, conducting fact-finding missions and interviewing victims of human rights violations. Previously, Dr. Serrano served as Judicial Affairs Officer in UNMISS, advising and building the capacity of the justice system actors. He has also been professor of constitutional and international human rights law in Universities of Mexico and Spain.
Dr. Dimitroff is Head of Field Office with the UN peacekeeping mission in the CAR. He is representing the Head of Mission in Bambari, which is the second largest CAR city. Dr. Dimitroff successfully mediated between rival militias, set up mechanisms for dialogue between them and achieved reconciliation between Muslim and non-Muslim communities at local level. In his distinguished career, Dr. Dimitroff has served as Ambassador to the United Nations and Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of Bulgaria to the UN, Deputy Head of Mission at Bulgarian Embassy in The Hague, the Netherlands and Deputy Permanent Representative to the OPCW. He has also held the post of UN Director in charge of Bulgarian membership in the UNSC for the Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
